He slipped his hand
around the nape of her neck
and smirked,
the wisp of a promise
in his eyes.

I’m drawing hearts
in my doodles
when I’ve always
hated hearts,
wearing pink
when black’s
more my color,
answering to
cutie pie
when it used
to be demeaning,
and forfeiting a
night out
for a night of
cuddling on the couch.
Like an ooey gooey
marshmallow
melting in a
steaming bath
of chocolate
I surrender to you.
